Many times our members share tools and best practices with other LXCouncil members during our monthly meetings. 15Five is an app that was shared recently by one of our business owner members, and it’s very interesting! As busy leaders in our companies, we often let feedback, praise, 1-on-1 meetings, and reviews happen just annually, or bi-annually at best.
15Five is a lightweight, easy to use system that facilitates ongoing feedback and praise, with the idea that continuous employee feedback drives high performing cultures better than the typical annual review cycle.
Through a weekly check-in, 15Five delivers just about everything you need to impact employee engagement and performance, including continuous feedback, objective tracking, peer recognition, 1-on-1 meetings, and employee reviews.
It gives you the touch points to measure your team’s temperature every week and the dashboard allows you to see quickly how the team is trending on an ongoing basis. Basically, 15Five offers leaders a non-threatening way to check-in with the team and make sure everyone is in the game.
With weekly team questions (that can be changed) and a 1-5 rating scale for questions like, “how did the week go,” there’s great opportunity. If a question produces a “3” response it presents the opportunity to ask questions of the team member and correct any challenges within a 5-day time-frame instead of the traditional 6-month or annual interval. Weekly team questions can be customized, so the app enables you to really gear the feedback loop to your specific business, which is a plus.
Employees also have the ability to give public HIGH FIVES to anyone on the team to recognize them for great work. The peer to peer recognition goes a long way to building a culture of trust and a highly productive work environment.
The fact that team members intentionally take 15 minutes at the end of each week to provide input, feedback, and define goals for the next week can really sets them up for success in their job. It also gives the leader/manager real time insight on any challenges or struggles being experienced by their people. By identifying these challenges right away, they can be addressed so they don’t percolate and become bigger issues for the larger team and company, as a whole.
The LXCouncil member who shared the tool, also shared that she’s seen a two-fold benefit since implementation. First, she now gives better (and more consistent) feedback to her team since she has the ability to address things on her schedule and in a private way with each team member. Second, she’s noticed that the feedback and inputs through 15Five are more open and honest from her team members. It has started conversations with team members that likely never would have happened without the implementation of this tool.
If you think your company might benefit from a tool like this, they have a free trial available.
