Tina Corner, Founder of LXCouncil, working with two young students to create vision boards at the 2nd Annual “Leading Ladies” Junior Achievement of Central Maryland event.
Towson, MD – March 26, 2016 –Recently Tina Corner, along with other Maryland business women, came together with outstanding middle and high school female students for the 2nd Annual “Leading Ladies” Junior Achievement of Central Maryland event.
Young girls were paired with businesswomen who shared their experiences, wisdom and personal career journey. It was a day to help young girls shape their dreams and this was accomplished by use of a Vision Board. The businesswomen mentored the students in using this tool to help them clarify and focus on their specific life aspirations.
Tina was asked to recount her impressions from her day as a mentor and participant with these “Leading Ladies”.
“What happened is that I learned as well and it wasn’t what I thought might happen. You believe what you are doing is good by giving back and helping mentor young women; offering guidance they’ll remember and use as they grow into their own selves and careers. However you end up learning as you are teaching. You reinforce your own perspectives as you share but your mind is opened to new possibilities because the younger generation has a different perspective.
Although there were several inspiring speakers, the focus was to help these students create a vision board. A Vision Board (VB) is a potent visualization tool, where you actually display pictures, words – anything that brings to life what you want your future to be which is what these young girls did. In looking at their boards, they will put a spotlight on what they want to achieve; bring to life.
They do work and there is a simple theory as to why they work so well. It is visualization – one of the most powerful mind exercises you can ever do – not to be summarily dismissed and not for the fainthearted. When you visualize something you automatically gravitate towards it and the likelihood of achieving it is extremely high.
An example of how powerful a Vision Board can be is to see how very successful athletes use it consistently to improve performance by visualizing and imagining the end result of their performance. These young women were able to create their Vision Boards, frame them and take them home to reflect upon again and again.
As an entrepreneur the question for you is, can a Vision Board be applicable to your business? Could you do a Vision Board and how effective would it be for you, your team? Driving away from this event with my marketing and communications manager, I asked whether a Vision Board for LXCouncil would be applicable and could we do that?
Later that weekend I decided to do an LXCouncil Vision Board. I wanted to display a viewpoint I would see every single day in my office. I included what we are striving to do:
- being the best for our clients;
- growing for the benefit of all
- retaining our clients and being sure our clients had the atmosphere for growth both personally and professionally and that we
- always remaining innovative, always
So my answer is YES. I think a Vision Board is very applicable for businesses and is probably essential for most entrepreneurs. A Vision Board allows you to get your inspiration down on paper, articulate it and focus on it daily.
Malcolm Forbes said “The best vision is insight.” Perhaps a Vision Board can also be your best insight.
