New members to LXCouncil are asked to do a DiSC® Profile for leaders. The DiSC® profile is a non-judgmental tool used to identify people’s behavioral differences. When you participate in a DiSC® profile, you’re asked to complete a series of questions that produce a detailed report about your personality and behavior. You also receive tips related to working with people of other styles. This is especially important in LXCouncil groups so each member has an understanding of where each of the other members are starting from a behavioral standpoint. In fact, we see it as so important, the name cards around the table at LXCouncil meetings include the person’s DiSC® profile.
The DiSC® model provides a common language that groups can use to to adapt their behaviors with others — within a work team, a leadership position, or other relationships. This is why its so powerful in LXCouncil meetings.
DiSC® profiles help you and your team:
- Understand how you respond to conflict, how you solve problems, what causes you stress, and more.
- Recognize and understand the communication needs of other group or team members
- Facilitate teamwork
- Develop stronger skills by identifying and responding to other people’s styles
- Manage effectively by understanding the dispositions and priorities of other group and team members
DiSC stands for the following:
D = Dominance
If you are identified as a high D, you place emphasis on accomplishing results, the bottom line, and you exude confidence.
I = Influence
If you are identified as a high I, you place emphasis on influencing or persuading others, openness, and relationships.
S = Steadiness
As a high S, you place emphasis on cooperation, sincerity, and dependability.
If identified as a high C, you place emphasis on quality and accuracy, expertise, and competency.
This short video describes the DiSC behavioral styles really well. It’s worth a watch!
As the leader in your business, understanding your DiSC® profile, as well as the DiSC® profile of your managers and team members, can empower you. It can help you understand the motivations and goals of individual team members, as well as what types of behaviors frustrate them or cause them to expend unnecessary energy and stress.
Unlike other personality tests, DiSC® profiles do more than provide insights into a person’s behavior and character. DiSC® profiles were created specifically with the workplace relationships in mind and offer strategies for working with, leading, managing, coaching, or selling to others.
Whatever personality or behavioral analysis tool you choose to use, the point to leaders is the same. People like to be communicated with in their natural style. If you understand that style and its nuances (and adapt accordingly), not only will you excel as the leader, but your team members will, as well!
If you’re ready to take your business and leadership skills to the next level, and if you think your business could benefit from more insights like what’s offered in this article, let’s start a conversation. LXCouncil may be the perfect next step!
