Helping your CEO client grow leaders, not bosses.

Helping your CEO client grow leaders, not bosses

In our CEO groups, a common challenge for a CEO is developing and mentoring their management talent. They either don’t have time, patience, or tools to do so.

Taking part in a CEO group is not only capitalizing on their peer’s experience and knowledge but also sharing the tools needed to improve their leadership career.

One tool some of our CEOs are currently using is reading and discussing a chapter from the book “Leadershift” by John Maxwell. The book centers on helping leaders gain the ability and willingness to make leadership changes that will positively enhance their organizational and personal growth. As Maxwell writes:

“Every advance you make as a leader will require a leadershift that changes the way you think, act, and lead,”

Their goal: improve their personal leadership skills in a slow, methodical way that will create lasting change.

To supplement their learnings from Leadershift, one of our moderators, John Foster, recently shared this article with his CEO peer group.

“Are you a Boss or a Leader? The Answer May Surprise You” by Jay Steven Levin, Forbes March 2021.

The article provides over 30 ways to differentiates between boss and leader. The CEOs took one more step and circulated it into their own teams. Why? Because they are looking for ways to help their talent grow and learn to be better leaders. Or as Jay pointed out:

“Leaders are data suppliers. They see sharing information as power.”

Your challenge: what is the one thing right now you can do to show leadership with your clients and help them be the leader their company requires them to be? What are the tools that you use to accomplish this challenge?
